Blue Bell PA, February 2nd, 2004: E-SoftSys formally announced today the successful completion of 'Time Off Requests', which is an add on module to the Stromberg existing enterprise level time and attendance solutions.
Time Off Requests adds the ability for employees to electronically record requests for time-off and for their supervisors to be notified of and approve or reject those requests. The Time Off Request application provides ability to request time off via Stromberg Time and Attendance web solutions e-Access, e-Kiosk, and e-Timesheet. The Time Off Request also provides ability to be called from Stromberg Time Manager, a client server application, without using IIS web server.

e-Commerce application for Rental/Renewal of spaces over the internet
Blue Bell, PA, September 29, 2003 : E-SoftSys formally announced the deployment of WebRental, a .NET based e-Commerce system, at Rice’s market, a New Hope, PA based farmer’s market. Web Rental allows vendors of Rice’s Maker to rent or renew spaces over the internet and charge the rental amount to a credit card.
Web Rental reduces long lines at the rental office by allowing market vendors to rent and renew spaces round the clock, from the convenience of their home. Vendors will be able to view the market layout online, select a space to rent, charge the rent to a credit card and generate a rental receipt. The vendors will also be able to generate rental activity and payment reports online.
Web Rental uses secure https transmission for processing credit card, it makes use of 128 bit digital certificate issued by Verisign and does not store vendor credit card details at any point of time during transaction process which was an important requirement of Rice’s.
WebRental allows the Rice’s market manager and owner to remotely track rented and available spaces, rental revenue, past due balances, space history, vendor history etc
WebRental is developed using .NET Technology with ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET, MTS, ADO.NET and SQL Server 2000.

E-SoftSys President & CEO interviewed by VAR Business

The interview was conducted by Ms. Carolyn A. April.
The excerpts of the interview are given below:
The Global Economy Has Come To Software
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past year; you know that lots of companies are outsourcing their software development work offshore, most notably to India and Russia. That includes the likes of vendors as large as IBM and big corporations that hire solution providers to develop custom apps for them.
The lure of offshore is real and taking root for developers of all size. Offshore outsourcing also speeds time to market for ISVs by, in effect, enabling a near 24/7 operation between the United States and overseas developers in opposite time zones.
But with the benefits come challenges, say some solution providers. Job No. 1 is managing offshore coders carefully and closely.
Kat Shenoy, president and CEO of software development solution provider E-SoftSys, has been running an offshore operation in India for the past five years (two of them with a previous company). He's struck by the development efficiency and high quality of the applications produced. Shenoy says he expects the offshore arm to grow by 20 to 25 percent this year and next. But over the years, he has learned some things.
"Make sure you locate in a city with good infrastructure available," says Shenoy, who found out the hard way when the small Indian town where he first set up shop lacked networking access.
The company eventually moved to better-wired Bangalore, where ample lines and a dedicated VPN connect its transcontinental teams. To improve communications, the company relies on instant messaging and NetMeeting software for collaboration. These tools are no substitute for human contact, however, and Shenoy advises stationing a project manager at the offshore site during a job's design and analysis stage.
Another fact to note is that, unlike U.S. shops, offshore operations almost always have to secure ISO9001 certification to land business. It's the equivalent of the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval for U.S. customers buying sight-unseen. The arduous certification process is worth it, however, Shenoy says, because the quality of projects is improved as a result of regular audits and strict documentation.
"In the long run, you are saving time because you end up with fewer development mistakes," he says.

E-SoftSys is an e-Commerce consulting and software development company located in Blue Bell, PA. The company achieved this substantial productivity gain while also reducing its development team from two experienced Java developers to one business analyst with less Java experience. Adopting OptimalJ and its model-driven, pattern- based (MDPB) development paradigm resulted in many advantages for E-SoftSys, including increased developer productivity, reduced programming skills requirements, simplification of the development process, easy application maintenance and enhancement, and reduced testing requirements.

Java coding is time consuming and the Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) component model, the crux of the J2EE architecture and the basis for most J2EE benefits, is inherently complex. This complexity results in the need for mundane activities to make EJBs work. In evaluating a number of Java application development environments, E-SoftSys wanted a tool that would address these concerns and chose OptimalJ because of its superior benefits.

OptimalJ uses domain modeling, a conventional UML-based class model, to define precise requirements at a high level of abstraction. The domain model can be built from scratch, imported from other modeling tools or inferred from a database import. A rules editor supports the definition and reuse of either static or dynamic constraints, defined declaratively in the domain model. Application code is then generated for the presentation, business and persistence tiers using patterns.
In a recent research report entitled 'Development Efficiency Drives Adoption of New Development Paradigms for J2EE and .NET', "The costs (primarily human capital costs) associated with code-centric development will continue to rise during the next three-to-five years. It will therefore become extremely hard for most companies to maintain their current pace of development activities, let alone increase that pace, unless they turn to more efficient forms of development," according to John Meyer, Senior Industry Analyst, Application Development, Giga Information Group. "Companies that want to maintain or increase their future competitive edge will need to begin evaluating, planning for and migrating development staff to at least one of the two alternative and more efficient forms of development, model-driven pattern-based (MDPB) or component assembly and orchestration (CAO)."

Expense Reporting Module developed for ASA Legal Systems
Expense entry module, an add-on to the existing Time entry module was released to ASA Legal Systems. The Timekeeper Desktop 4.0 has all the functionalities of its predecessors with Expense entry as an optional add-on and other new features. These new features will make it easier for users to maintain information and the support staff will be able to troubleshoot any problems that may occur, in a record time. Latest Microsoft technologies and third party components were used for efficiency, speed and looks. The expense entry module will be used by users in a law firm, to enter expenses into the system. The expenses entries will then be approved by accounting, released by users and then get posted into the accounting system. The look and feel of the expense entry module was developed strikingly similar to the previously existing Time entry module, to avoid any confusion that might arise for the existing users.
